To date, 90% of all bitcoins have already been mined. The total issue of the first crypto coin is 21 million, CoinDesk reports, writing in the Telegram channel Na chasi/Crypto.

According to Glassnode, miners have mined 18.89 million BTC, which is 90% of the total issue.

The first bitcoin appeared on January 9, 2009, meaning it took 12 years to mine that much BTC. The remaining 10% will be mined for 119 years – until February 2140. 4.7 million mined BTC are illiquid.

However, not all coins are in circulation. Chainalysis estimates that 3.7 million BTC are illiquid – people have simply lost the private keys to them or died.1 million bitcoins belong to the cryptocurrency’s mysterious founder Satoshi Nakamoto since the network’s inception. This amount remains untouchable.
