Moscow will give a strong response to the new US sanctions against Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said

“There should be no doubt – there will be a strong response to the sanctions, not necessarily symmetrical, but calibrated and sensitive for the American side,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden announced the first wave of sanctions against Russia for “launching the Russian invasion of Ukraine” and promised to intensify restrictions if Moscow goes deeper into Ukrainian territory.

The US banned secondary market transactions with Russian government debt issued after March 1, 2022, and imposed restrictions against VEB and Promsvyazbank, as well as members of the Russian elite.

“Russia has proven that with all the sanctions costs it is able to minimize the damage caused. And certainly sanctions pressure cannot affect our determination to firmly defend our interests,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
