In February, China imported almost 401 thousand tons of LNG from Russia, which is twice as much as in the same period a year earlier. This is reported by Bloomberg agency with reference to the official data of China.

The publication reports that although the total volume of LNG imports to China decreased by 12% amid rising gas prices, Russia’s share in LNG imports rose to 8% in February.

Chinese feedstock buyers are looking for opportunities to diversify their portfolios amid potential supply constraints from existing sources. Meanwhile, according to the agency, the situation in Ukraine has worsened the possibilities of supplying raw materials from Russia to China, and many deals have been suspended pending “clearer political signals”.
