Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Nova believes that increasing Russia’s energy supplies to the east is becoming urgent due to Western sanctions.

“The issue (of diversification of energy exports to Asia-Pacific countries) is really urgent now, because we hear that another package of measures (by Western countries) is being developed,” Novak said during a meeting with the United Russia faction in the State Duma.

According to the deputy prime minister, Russia will continue to ensure the supply of energy resources. “In the extreme case we will, we will move in the direction of the Asian-Pacific region anyway, work with them on loading and supply,” Novak summarized.

He is sure that it is impossible to give up Russian oil and gas now.

“We are also observing the situation, and a lot of different statements by politicians about the fact that we will refuse (from Russian energy carriers). But if you paid attention, regarding the refusal of Russian gas, European energy ministers gathered a couple of weeks ago, they announced that it is impossible now. They made a 10-point decision on what they will do to diversify away from our gas, and they have a deadline of 2030. So it is not possible at the moment. We have to look further. You can announce anything. They announced to get rid of coal, but in the end last year 2021 showed that at high gas prices coal-fired generation became in demand,” Novak said.

“The same for oil – it is impossible to replace Russian oil now,” he emphasized, recalling that Russia supplies 8 million barrels per day for export.

“Although statements will be made. Even if they are not backed up by anything, they will be heard – it is important for politicians to show that they are against Russia,” the deputy prime minister explained.
