The largest shareholder of Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), Ilon Musk, whose fortune is estimated at $219 billion, has become the richest person in the world. This is reported by Forbes with reference to the data of the rating of the richest people in the world according to the publication.

The businessman took the first line for the first time – in last year’s rating he was in second place with $151 billion. Over the past 12 months, Musk got rich by $68 billion. This allowed him to bypass his closest competitor – the founder of Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Jeff Bezos, whose fortune is estimated at $171 billion, which is $6 billion less than a year ago.

Musk’s main assets are stakes in electric car maker Tesla, he owns 172.6 million or 17% of the company and almost 44% of space company SpaceX. According to the businessman, he will pay more than $11 billion in taxes for 2021 and will become the largest private taxpayer in the United States.
