The U.S. stock market ended Wednesday’s trading with a decline amid negative dynamics on the part of the consumer services, consumer goods and technology sectors.

At the time of closing on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones fell in price by 3.57%, reaching a 52-week low, the S&P 500 index fell in price by 4.04%, the NASDAQ Composite index fell by 4.73%.

In the leaders of growth among the components of the Dow Jones index at the end of today’s trading were shares of Verizon Communications Inc, which fell 0.05 p. (0.10%), closing at 48.89. Quotes of Amgen Inc fell by 1.39 p. (0.57%), ending trading at 243.96. Merck & Company Inc shares fell 0.90p (0.97%) to close at 92.10.

Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc shares fell 3.77p (8.39%) to close at 41.17. Shares in Coca-Cola Co rose 4.58p (6.96%) to close at 61.20, while Walmart Inc fell 8.92p (6.79%) to close at 122.43.

The top gainers among the S&P 500 index components in today’s trading were TJX Companies Inc, up 7.12% to 60.19, Assurant Inc, which gained 1.31% to close at 186.85, and NRG Energy Inc, up 1.24% to close at 45.76.

Leading the decline were shares of Target Corporation, which declined 24.93% to close at 161.61. Shares of Dollar Tree Inc lost 14.42% and ended the session at 133.80. Quotes of Old Dominion Freight Line Incdecreased in price by 12.97% to 236.47.

The top gainers among the NASDAQ Composite index components in today’s trading were Troika Media Group Inc, up 48.21% to 0.58, Magenta Therapeutics Inc, up 32.20% to close at 1.56, and Ricebran Tech, up 22.08% to close at 0.72.

Leading the decline were shares of Endo International PLC, which declined 46.54% to close at 0.62. Baudax Bio Inc (NASDAQ:BXRX) shares lost 31.53% to end the session at 0.81. INVO Bioscience Inc quotes decreased in value by 29.45% to the mark of 1.09.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell in price (2,733) exceeded the number of securities that closed in the plus (461), and the quotations of 91 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange the securities of 3017 companies fell in price, 759 grew, and 235 remained at the level of the previous closing.

Quotes of shares of Target Corporation fell to a 52-week low, down 24.93%, 53.67 p., and ended trading at 161.61. NRG Energy Inc stock price rose to a high, up 1.24%, 0.56p, and ended trading at 45.76. Old Dominion Freight Line Inc shares fell to a 52-week low, down 12.97%, 35.25p, to end trading at 236.47. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc stock price fell to a 52-week low, down 8.39%, 3.77p, and ended trading at 41.17. Walmart Inc share prices fell to a 52-week low, down 6.79%, 8.92p, and ended trading at 122.43. Endo International PLC share price fell to an all-time low, down 46.54%, 0.54p, and ended trading at 0.62. Baudax Bio Inc stock price fell to an all-time low, down 31.53%, 0.37p, and ended trading at 0.81. INVO Bioscience Inc stock price fell to an all-time low, down 29.45%, 0.46p, and ended trading at 1.09.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is derived from the performance of options trading on the S&P 500, rose 18.62% to 30.96.

Gold futures for June delivery lost 0.27%, or 4.99, to settle at $1.00 a troy ounce. As for other commodities, prices for WTI crude oil futures for delivery in July fell 2.75%, or 3.02, to $106.61 a barrel. Brent crude futures for delivery in July fell 2.60%, or 2.91, to $109.02 per barrel.

Meanwhile, on the forex market, EUR/USD fell 0.81% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.92% to 128.21.

The USD index futures rose by 0.53% to 103.96.
