U.S. stock indexes rose on Friday, breaking a multi-week losing streak after a string of upbeat corporate reports temporarily offset fears of a sharp economic slowdown. The S&P 500 jumped by the close, adding 2.5% to close at 4158.27 points. The index had its best week since November 2020, rising more than 6.5% in 5 trading days.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 576 points, or 1.8%, to 33,213.55 points on Friday, while the Nasdaq Composite added more than 3%. Data released Friday showed that inflationary pressures eased only slightly in April compared with March. That said, inflation-adjusted personal spending rose in April. Growth stocks looked better than the broad market this time, while securities of defensive sectors and financial organizations looked worse.
