The decision of the Georgian government not to join the sanctions against Russia is approved by 69.8% of citizens polled in Georgia, Georgian TV company “Imedi” reported yesterday. The poll was commissioned by the Georgian International Center for Public Opinion and Marketing GORBI.

27.1% disagreed with the government’s decision, 3.1% could not give an unambiguous answer or refused to answer.

According to the TV company, the poll was conducted between June 2-7, 2022, 1001 respondents were polled across Georgia, the margin of error may be 3%.

In the poll, the majority of respondents were also against Georgia being drawn into a war against Russia.

In particular, the question answered by the respondents sounded as follows: “If the West demands Georgia to join the war against Russia, what should be Georgia’s position?”.

To this question 83.6% answered that Georgia should not take part in the war, 11.5% believe that it should, and 4.9% could not answer the question.

According to the survey, 28.5% of respondents believe that opposition party “United National Movement” is most interested in opening a “second front” against Russia, 12.4% believe that Russia is most interested in this, 12.4% believe that the United States is most interested in this, 8.6% believe that the authorities of Ukraine, 2.1% believe that the authorities of Georgia, 1.2% believe that the European Union, 12.6% believe that no one is interested, and 22.2% could not give a clear answer.

In addition, the poll showed that the majority of citizens do not support the opposition’s requests to the West to impose sanctions against the leaders of Georgia’s ruling party Georgian Dream.

In particular, 66.2% do not agree with this, 28.9% agree, and 4.9% answered that they do not know.
