Consumer prices in France rose 6.2% year-on-year in October 2022, calculated according to French standards, after rising 5.6% in September, final data from the national statistics office Insee showed. The figure was in line with preliminary data. Relative to the previous month, prices in October increased by 1%.

The acceleration of inflation is due to the strengthening of price increases for energy, food and industrial goods, Insee said.

Core inflation, which does not take into account fluctuations in the cost of food and energy, amounted to 5% in October in annual terms against 4.5% in September.

The country’s annualized rate of increase in energy prices accelerated to 19.1% in October from 17.9% a month earlier. Services rose in price by 3.1% after 3.2% a month earlier. Food price growth accelerated to 12% from 9.9%, while industrial goods prices accelerated to 4.2% from 3.6%. Tobacco prices rose 0.3%.

Consumer prices in France, harmonized with European Union standards, rose 7.1% year-on-year in October. The figure matched both preliminary data and forecasts of experts surveyed by Bloomberg and Trading Economics. Inflation accelerated from 6.2% in September.
