Last week, the number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits for the first time increased by 4 thousand – up to 230 thousand people, according to the report of the U.S. Department of Labor. A week earlier, the figure was 226,000, not 225,000, as previously reported.

Analysts polled by Bloomberg predicted the figure to rise to 230 thousand from the previously announced level, as did respondents at Trading Economics.

The average number of claims over the past 4 weeks, a less volatile indicator, rose by 1k to the same 230k.

The number of Americans continuing to receive unemployment benefits for the week ending November 26 jumped to 1.671 million from 1.609 million (previously reported at 1.608 million) in the prior week. The rise was recorded at the end of the eighth consecutive week.

At the same time, analysts on average expected the indicator to decline to 1.6 million compared to the initial estimate.
