The United States plans to impose new sanctions on Russia and China on Friday. According to The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing officials, the restrictive measures are planned because of human rights violations in these countries, as well as Beijing’s support for illegal fishing in the Pacific Ocean.

Most of the sanctions, as the newspaper notes, will be implemented in accordance with the Magnitsky Act. The sanctions list will include those accused by the US of corruption and human rights violations. According to sources, Washington will freeze the assets of high-ranking Russian officials caught under the sanctions. They will also be banned from entering the US and any business relations.

The sources added that restrictive measures may be imposed on several Russian defense companies. According to WSJ, 170 Chinese organizations, which, according to Washington, are involved in illegal fishing in the Pacific Ocean, will fall under the sanctions.
