Apple Inc is introducing a new feature that will allow iPhones to accept card payments and digital payments.

The feature, to be launched later this year, will use NFC short-range wireless data transfer technology to make all kinds of payments, including between iPhones, Apple said Tuesday. The tech giant added that it will not receive information about what is purchased or by whom, emphasizing the privacy of the service.

Fintech services Stripe and Shopify Point will be the first to start offering the Tap to Pay service to business customers – in the spring of 2022 in the U.S., Apple said.

“Whether you’re an online retailer or a sole proprietor, you’ll soon be able to accept contactless payments on a device that’s already in your pocket – your iPhone,” said Billy Alvarado, Stripe’s director of business development.
