Warren Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway on June 23 purchased an additional 794,389 shares of Occidental Petroleum for a little over $44 million, according to a document posted on the website of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The cost of one share within this transaction amounted to $55,389. Taking into account the acquisition of the last block of shares Warren Buffett owns 16.4% stake in Occidental Petroleum.

Berkshire’s stake in Occidental Petroleum currently stands at 153.5 million shares and is valued at nearly $9 billion. Buffett’s company also holds options to purchase 83.9 million shares and, if exercised, will be able to increase its stake to more than 25%.

Buffett began actively buying securities of the oil company in early March 2022. Then the company invested more than $2.5 billion in shares and became the owner of 14.6% of the share portfolio (including options). In early May, Berkshire Hathaway closed two more deals, acquiring 5.9 million shares for $336 million. On June 19 and 22, the conglomerate’s stake was increased by another 9.6 million shares, which were purchased for $529 million.
