Russia’s revenues from gas sales to the EU will reach a record $100 billion in 2022, thanks to a rapid rise in prices, French publication Les Echos writes, citing a forecast by analysts at Citigroup (NYSE:C).

That amount is double the amount from last year, when fuel prices “were already high,” and does not take into account revenues from other energy, such as oil and coal, the newspaper notes.

“Despite sanctions, loud statements and promises of embargoes,” the 27 EU member states pay $200 million daily to Gazprom (MCX:GAZP), Les Echos wrote, citing calculations by Thierry Bros, a professor at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on May 19 that about half of Russian gas buyers have already opened accounts in Gazprombank to pay for fuel in rubles, following Moscow’s requirements. According to them, buyers from “unfriendly” countries must transfer foreign currency to a special account at the bank, which will then sell it on the Moscow Exchange, credit the proceeds in rubles to ruble accounts and transfer the money to Gazprom.
