Google has banned developers in Russia from downloading and updating paid applications in Google Play, according to the service’s blog.

Subscriptions that have already been paid for will be valid until the end of the period specified in the application, then they will be canceled. For developers whose apps provide “critically needed services,” Google recommended making them completely free.

The company added that users will still be able to download free games and apps from the Play Store. They will also continue to have access to those paid apps that have already been downloaded or purchased.
