The number of unemployed in Germany in December decreased by 23 thousand – to 2.405 million people, according to data from the Federal Employment Agency of Germany.

Unemployment fell to 5.2% from 5.3% in November. Both figures are the lowest since March 2020. Experts, according to Trading Economics, on average expected the number of unemployed to drop by 15,000 and unemployment to remain at 5.3%.

The number of unemployed in the FRG in December decreased for the eighth consecutive month, indicating a steady growth of the labor market. In December 2020, unemployment in Germany was at 6.1%.The number of open vacancies in Germany in December amounted to 794 thousand, which is 213 thousand more than a year earlier.
