The grain harvest in Russia this year, according to preliminary data, may reach 130 million tons, including 87 million tons of wheat, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the government.

“A good harvest is expected this year. According to experts’ estimates – of course, these are preliminary estimates – the grain harvest may reach 130 million tons, including 87 million tons of wheat,” Putin said. – “If that happens, and we will count on it, then (the wheat harvest) could be a record in Russia’s history.

“This will allow not only to meet domestic needs with a reserve, but also to increase supplies to the global market for our partners, which is very important for world food markets,” the president emphasized.

The historical record for the production of grain crops in general was set by the Russian Federation in 2017, when 135.5 million tons were harvested. The wheat harvest then amounted to 86 million tons.

In 2020, the RF harvested 133.5 million tons of grain, including 85.9 million tons of wheat. In 2021, the harvest dropped to 121.4 million tons (76 million tons of wheat).
