Hackers have launched a new Echelon virus that attacks Telegram user accounts and hacks cryptocurrency wallets. This is reported by SafeGuard Cyber Division Seven.

How the virus works

The malware works in one of the popular Telegram channels about cryptocurrency. Attackers use the “Smokes Night” account to spread Echelon in messenger channels. The virus is aimed at stealing logins and passwords from cryptocurrency wallets (AtomicWallet, BitcoinCore, ByteCoin, Exodus, Jaxx and Monero).

The malware also hacks users’ accounts in popular messengers: WhatsApp and Telegram, Discord, Edge, FileZilla, OpenVPN, Outlook.

“This is a well-coordinated cyber campaign aimed mainly at new or naive subscribers to Telegram channels,” SafeGuard Cyber Division Seven said in a statement.

What experts advise Cybersecurity experts recommend hiding personal data, including phone number, available to other users in Telegram for the time being.
