In January 2023, loading on the network of Russian Railways amounted to 99.2 million tons, which is 4.8% less than in the same period last year, the company reported.

Cargo turnover for January 2023 increased by 1.5% year-on-year to 228.4 billion tariff ton-kilometers. Cargo turnover including empty wagon mileage for the same period increased by 0.4% and amounted to 284.3 billion tonne-kilometers.

Grain (+22.5%) and construction cargo (+8.1%) showed growth in January. Comparing January with December 2022, the loading of coke (+12%), iron and manganese ore (+5.6%) and fertilizers (+2.1%) increased, the monopoly said. The leaders in loading dynamics over the past month were the Transbaikal (+29.1%), Far Eastern (+13.4%) and Oktyabrskaya (+4.9%) railroads.

In total, in January 2023 railroads loaded: hard coal – 30.4 million tons (-4.3% vs. January 2022); coke – 923.2 thousand tons (-5.1%); oil and oil products – 18.5 million tons (-4.9%); iron and manganese ore – 9.6 million tons (-1.4%); ferrous metals – 5.4 million tons (-10.6%); ferrous metal scrap – 425.1 thousand tons (-39.1%); ferrous metal scrap – 425.1 thousand tons (-39.1%). tonnes (-39.1%); chemical and mineral fertilizers – 5.2 million tonnes (-5.4%); cement – 1.1 million tonnes (-11.8%); timber cargo – 2.1 million tonnes (-29.9%); grain – 2.3 million tonnes (+22.5%); construction cargo – 9.1 million tonnes (+8.1%); non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials – 1.4 million tons (-7.4%); chemicals and soda – 1.8 million tons (-14.6%); industrial raw materials and molding materials – 2 million tons (-24.4%); other, including cargo in containers – 9 million tons (-2.8%).

At the end of January, RZD gave a preliminary forecast for January loading, a decrease of 5.8% was expected.

Earlier on Wednesday, a source familiar with the company’s operations told Interfax about the decrease in loading for January, the company later confirmed this figure. RZD’s work plan for February 2023 assumes loading of 3.316 million tons on average per day, the agency’s interlocutor said.
