In January-May 2022, Russian banks issued car loans worth 257.3 billion rubles or 40.9% less than in the same period last year, according to the report of the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI). At the same time, compared to the first 5 months of “pandemic” 2020, the volume of issued car loans at the beginning of this year, on the contrary, increased by 11.9%.

The largest volume of issued car loans in the regions of the Russian Federation for 5 months of 2022 was noted in Moscow (32.5 billion rubles), Moscow region (20.9 billion rubles), St. Petersburg (17.9 billion rubles), Krasnodar Krai (12.0 billion rubles) and the Republic of Tatarstan (9.8 billion rubles).

It should be noted that compared to the same period last year in January-May 2022, the most serious dynamics of reduction in the volume of issued car loans (among the 30 leading regions in this type of retail lending) was demonstrated by the Sverdlovsk region (-53.1%), the Samara region (-48.9%), the Chelyabinsk region (-48.5%) and the Leningrad region (-46.5%), as well as the Perm region (-45.5%). In Moscow and St. Petersburg this indicator decreased by 41.8% and 42.9%, respectively.
