Consumer prices in France in March 2022, calculated according to French standards, increased by 4.5% in annualized terms after an increase of 3.6% in February, according to the final data of the National Statistics Office Insee. Relative to the previous month, prices increased by 1.4%. The data coincided with the previously announced dynamics.

The acceleration of inflation is due to the strengthening of the rise in energy and food prices, Insee notes.

Core inflation, which does not take into account fluctuations in the cost of food and energy, in March remained at 2.5% in annual terms as in February.

The rate of growth in the country’s energy prices accelerated in March to 29.2% from 21.1% a month earlier, services to 2.3% from 2.2% and food to 2.9% from 2.1%. Price growth for manufactured goods slowed to 2.1% from 2.2%. Tobacco prices fell 0.1% as in February.

Consumer prices in France, harmonized with European Union standards, rose at a 5.1% annualized rate in March. Inflation accelerated from February’s 4.2% and set a new record in the history of calculating the indicator according to the EU methodology, that is, since 1997. The figure matched the previously announced data and experts polled by Trading Economics did not expect a revision.

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose by 1.6% after rising by 0.9% in February, also matching the preliminary estimate.
