Mastercard will launch the Biometric Checkout Program system, allowing customers to pay at the checkout with a smile or a wave of the hand. This is reported on the official website of the payment system.

According to the company, the biometric checkout system will speed up payments, reduce queues and provide greater security than a standard credit or debit card.

“Once enrolled, there is no need to slow down the line at the checkout by searching pockets or bag. Consumers can simply check their bill and smile into the camera or swipe their hand over the reader to pay,” Mastercard said.

The first pilot projects will launch in five supermarkets in Brazil. Customers will need to register for biometric payments in-store or through the Payface app.

In the future, the company will focus on launching the technology in the markets of South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
