Microsoft will cut thousands of jobs across its divisions, and in particular, eliminate a number of positions in its human resources and engineering departments, Reuters writes.

Microsoft plans to cut about 5% of its workforce, or about 11,000 positions, which could signal that problems in the technology sector are continuing and companies are being forced to cut jobs.

Another wave of layoffs at Microsoft suggests the situation is likely to get even worse.

Companies such as Amazon and Meta Platforms* have announced layoffs as demand slows and the global economic outlook worsens.

As of June 30, the company had 221,000 full-time employees, including 122,000 in the U.S. and 99,000 in other countries.
