U.S. sporting goods maker Nike Inc.’s net income fell 4% to $1.396 billion, or $0.87 per share, in its fiscal third quarter ended February 28, 2021, compared with $1.449 billion, or $0.90 per share, in the same period a year earlier, according to a company press release

Still, the figure was better than market forecasts. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had on average forecast earnings of $0.71 per share.

Nike’s quarterly revenue increased by 5% to $10.9 billion, with experts’ consensus forecast at $10.6 billion. Excluding the impact of changes in exchange rates, the figure increased by 8%.

The company’s online sales for the reporting period jumped 19%, or 22%, excluding currency fluctuations. In North America, the figure soared by a third.

Nike’s revenue in China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) fell 5% to $2.16 billion. Sales in North America increased 9% to $3.88 billion. Revenue in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region rose 7% to $2.78 billion, while revenue in Asia Pacific and Latin America rose 11% to $1.46 billion.

Apparel revenue rose 9% to $3.23 billion and footwear revenue rose 2% to $6.66 billion. Meanwhile, in the sports equipment segment, revenue jumped 32% to $390 million.

Nike’s stock price in additional trading on Monday rose by 6%. Since the beginning of the year, the company’s capitalization fell 22% to $207.5 billion.
