“NOVATEK (MCX:NVTK) is interested in buying Finnish energy holding Fortum’s assets in Russia, the Russian company’s chairman Leonid Mikhelson said.

“NOVATEK may consider buying Fortum’s Russian assets, profit allows,” Mikhelson said on the sidelines of SPIEF-2022.

“We didn’t disclose the statements for the first quarter, we won’t for the second quarter either. So we can buy. At today’s prices, we have very good financial results, that is, we can consider (buying),” he said.

As reported, Finnish Fortum announced its withdrawal from the Russian market in mid-May. The energy holding owns in Russia 98.23% in PJSC Fortum (former TGK-10) and about 30% in PJSC TGK-1 (MCX:TGKA) (the main shareholder is Gazprom (MCX:GAZP) Energy Holding). In addition, Fortum owns a 73.4% stake in Uniper, which owns 83.73% of Unipro (MCX:UPRO) in Russia. The company is also involved in a number of renewable energy projects.
