The number of reported cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection in the world rose to 276 million 243 thousand 89 as of Wednesday morning, data from the American Johns Hopkins University showed.

Since the virus began spreading, 5 million 369,175 people have died worldwide after contracting COVID-19. Countries with more than 20 million cases of COVID-19 infection still include the United States, India and Brazil. The United States remains the leader in the number of infections and deaths, with 51,272,854 COVID-19 infections. The number of deaths amounted to 810 thousand 45.

The second place in the number of infected is occupied by India, where the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reached 34 million 758 thousand 481, and the number of deaths from the consequences of infection with the virus in the country rose to 478 thousand 325 people. The third place is occupied by Brazil, where 22 million 219 thousand 477 people were infected with the coronavirus and 617 thousand 948 of them died.

The Worldometer portal, which specializes in statistics on the most important world events, reported that the death rate per 1 million of the world’s population was 690.9 as of Wednesday morning. In the United States per 1 million people died 2 thousand 489 people, India – 342, Brazil – 2 thousand 877.
