Gold mining in the Chukotka Autonomous District in January-April 2022 decreased by 9% to 6.5 tons compared to the same period of 2021, the press service of the office of the governor and government of the region reported.

“At the Dvoinoye deposit (one of Kinross Gold’s assets, the plans to sell it to Highland Gold’s structures were announced in April), no mining was carried out due to the development of reserves at the deposit. At present, processing of ore previously mined and stockpiled at the Dvoinoy mine continues. As of May 1, 537.2 kg of gold and 897.5 kg of silver were processed,” explained a representative of the Department of Industrial Policy of the region, whose words are quoted in the report.

According to the results of the first 3 months of 2022 there was an increase in production by 4.2%.

As of May 1, 2022 ore gold mining in Chukotka was carried out by five companies: JSC “Chukotka Mining and Geological Company” (ChGGK, also an asset of Kinross Gold, about plans to sell which the company previously announced), LLC “Valunisty Mine” and CJSC “Base Metals” (both Highland Gold), LLC “Gold Ore Company “Mayskoye” (Polymetal ) and LLC “Karalveem Mine” (Leviev Group).

CHGC at the Kupol deposit in January-April 2022 produced about 2.7 tons of gold and 27.9 tons of silver.

Silver production in Chukotka for 4 months of 2022 decreased by 6% to 32.1 tons.

Last year, ore gold production in Chukotka AO increased by 4% compared to the 2020 figure and exceeded 25.3 tons. In addition, more than 2 tons of placer gold were produced (an increase of more than 12% compared to 2020).
