Russia cannot be squeezed out of the international economic system, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

“We understand the huge technological advantages, the advantages of high technology in developed economies. We are not going to cut ourselves off from it. They want to squeeze us out of it a little bit, but in today’s world it is simply unrealistic, impossible,” he said today, speaking at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum via video link.

“If we do not separate ourselves with a wall, no one will be able to separate a country like Russia,” Putin emphasized.

In addition, he emphasized that those who seek to isolate Russia are harming themselves.

“No matter how stable the economies of those countries that pursue such shortsighted policies may be, the current state of the world economy shows that our position is correct and justified,” Putin added.

Freezing of Russia’s assets

Commenting on the freezing of Russian assets by Western countries, the president said that stealing someone else’s assets has never led to good, especially those who do it.

“Violation of rules, norms in the sphere of international finance, trade does not lead to anything good. And to put it in simple terms, it will only lead to problems for those who do it,” Putin said. “Stealing other people’s assets has never done anyone any good, first of all those who are engaged in this disreputable business,” he said.

Neglecting the interests of other countries in the field of politics and security, the Russian president continued, “as it has now turned out, leads to chaos, to economic turmoil,” and this affects the world globally.

“Western countries are sure that it is possible to expel from world politics, culture and sports anyone undesirable who has his own point of view and is ready to defend it. Nothing like this is actually happening, and it is impossible to achieve this, as I have already said,” the head of state said.

With sanctions and bans, the president emphasized, it is impossible to restrain or weaken the countries that are pursuing and will continue to pursue their policies. “After all, it’s not just about Russia and not even just about China, it’s about many other countries in the world. There are more and more countries in the world that want and will pursue independent policies. And no “world gendarme” will be able to suspend this natural global process, no forces will be enough, and no desire will simply be lost,” Putin is confident.

“Faced with problems inside their countries, I hope that they will come to realize that this policy is absolutely futile,” he said.
