Retail sales in Germany in March decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, according to data from the country’s Federal Statistical Agency (Destatis). In February, the indicator increased by 0.1%.

Compared to March 2021, retail sales climbed 2.7% last month.

Food sales in the country rose 2.9% in March compared to February. On a year-over-year basis, sales fell 5.4%. Sales of non-food products fell by 2.6%. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, non-food sales were up 39%, due to a low base of comparison caused by measures to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in March last year.
