The Russian Federal Security Service has reported that a shell from the territory of Ukraine has completely destroyed the place of duty of border guard troops in Rostov Region, with no casualties, Russian agencies reported. The Ukrainian military denied these reports.

“On February 21 this year at 9:50 a.m., a shell of an unidentified type fired from the territory of Ukraine completely destroyed the place of duty of the border guards of the Russian Federal Security Service’s border guard unit in the Rostov region, located at a distance of about 150 meters from the Russian-Ukrainian border,” Interfax quoted the FSB report as saying.

Ukraine has denied the allegations.

“This time the aggressor has resorted to accusations by Ukrainian defenders of allegedly shelling a Russian border checkpoint in the Rostov region. This does not correspond to reality,” the headquarters of Ukraine’s United Forces Operation said in a statement.

“Russian media are reporting a sharp aggravation of the situation near the Ukrainian-Russian border. We officially inform that the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are at their positions, observe the Minsk agreements and do not carry out any offensive actions,” it said.

Over the weekend, Russia reported several cases of shells from Ukraine hitting its territory.

The conflict between self-proclaimed pro-Russian republics in eastern Ukraine and government forces escalated sharply last week.
