American electric car maker Tesla Inc. is recalling 53,882,000 cars due to safety problems related to autonomous driving software.

This is about the “rolling stop” function in the software full self-driving (full autonomous driving), which is responsible for braking in front of a sign prohibiting traffic. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this feature can allow a vehicle to drive through a sign without stopping.

The recall affects certain Model S and Model X vehicles from the 2016-2022 model years, Model 3s from the 2017-2022 model years, and Model Y vehicles from the 2020-2022 model years.

Tesla also said it will perform a free software update that disables the rolling stop feature.

The company’s shares are adding 0.3 percent in pre-market trading in New York on Tuesday.
