The Bank of Russia has decided to cancel the ban on short selling from June 1. This is reported in the press release of the Central Bank on the official website of the regulator. In addition, the ban on buying currency with leverage is canceled.

Also, the Central Bank decided to temporarily reduce the amount of leverage, which the broker can provide to the client for unsecured transactions with assets. The restriction will be in effect from June 1 to December 31, 2022.

The ban on opening short positions was introduced on March 22 – two days before the resumption of trading in shares on the Moscow Exchange after a three-week break. This decision was made “in order to ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of investors on financial markets, reduce risks and limit excessive volatility”.
