The price of gas in Europe at the opening of trading for the first time since late January rose above $1000 per thousand cubic meters, according to data from the London-based ICE exchange. The total increase in the cost amounted to about 13.7%.

The price of January futures at the TTF hub in the Netherlands peaked at $1031.8 per 1,000 cubic meters. Then the cost of gas fell to $980 per 1 thousand cubic meters.

Pressure on prices is exerted, among other things, by news that the US expects Russia to “invade” Ukraine in the near future. Earlier, Politico, citing sources, reported that US President Joe Biden said during talks with NATO allies that Russia could “invade Ukraine” on February 16.

After that, Western embassies in Kiev began to close and the diplomatic missions of many countries called on their citizens to leave the territory of Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly denied the information about preparations for an invasion.
