The Russian government is not considering the option of banning cryptocurrency in Russia, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Andrei Lugovoi told RBC.

He added that the working group in the Duma, which will meet on February 16, also did not have any documents or proposals for a ban.

«It is pointless to talk about any probability of resolving the ban at the moment. There are different points of view, which in the course of the discussion should come to some common understanding,” Lugovoi noted.

Earlier, the Central Bank sent the Finance Ministry objections to the concept of regulation of cryptocurrency circulation proposed by the agency in January in a letter from the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, to Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

In the document, the Central Bank points out that the legalization of digital currencies will create conditions for the growth of investments in the instrument, which in fact “is a financial pyramid scheme”. At the same time, limits on investments in cryptocurrency for unqualified investors will not reduce these risks, the regulator is sure.
