The first 500 Tajik citizens will be sent to the United Kingdom this year for seasonal work, Tajikistan’s National News Agency (NIAT) Khovar reported Tuesday.

Diyor Normatov, director of the “Pre-departure Consultation and Training Center for Migrant Workers” in Dushanbe city, told the agency that 60 applicants are already preparing documents for agricultural work, including British visas.

“In accordance with the announcement of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan, more than 200 citizens were selected at the first stage, whose documents we submitted to the British Embassy in Tajikistan. The company itself then held an online conversation with the citizens and selected 60 of them. Citizens are only required to know English at a communication level,” Normatov said, as quoted by NIAT.

According to him, travel expenses are paid by the citizens themselves. The employer, in turn, provides all hired citizens with a place to live and a permanent job.

In addition, 1,000 citizens are registered for later stages of travel.

“In the UK, they work up to eight hours a day and earn up to $12 (about £9.5) an hour. The term of the labor contract is six months. After six months, the Tajik migrant must return home,” Normatov noted.
