U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen plans to meet with four senators this week to discuss a bill introduced in Congress in March that would deprive Russia of the ability to sell gold to circumvent sanctions. This is reported by Axios, citing sources.

The draft law suggests that Russia will be deprived of the ability to use gold reserves, which amount to about $132 billion.

Senators have been working with the Ministry of Finance for two weeks to make a number of changes to the bill, Axios reports. What changes they are talking about is not specified. Lawmakers admit that the Senate could pass the initiative as early as this week.

A Treasury Department spokesman would not deny or confirm the planned meeting, saying that Ms. Yellen “meets regularly with members of Congress to discuss legislation.”
