Let’s consider the trading system “Sniper” (Sniper), which is quite popular among traders. This is a non-syndicator forex strategy based on level trading.

The author of the Sniper strategy Pavel Dmitriev introduces some of his own designations into the algorithm description – “Safe”, Impulse Levels, Total Impulse Levels, Level of Sharp Trend Change, etc.), the meaning of which will be explained below.

Actually, the levels in the Sniper strategy are the most important elements around which the trading principle is built. There are levels of yesterday (highs and lows), impulse levels, total impulse levels, bank levels, levels of sharp trend change, consolidation zones.

The highs and lows of the past day (marked with orange lines) are important, because on daily charts from them there is often a reversal or correction of price movement.

Impulse levels (depicted on the chart in pale red color) are built according to the following rules:

1. The price “bounces” from the level;
2. The price breaks through the level with a powerful impulse of at least 6 points;
3. The price fixes at this level.

Impulse levels

Total impulse levels (displayed in purple or gray on the chart) are built on timeframes above the working timeframe, for example, when trading on the 5-minute timeframe, a total impulse level is built on the 15-minute timeframe.

Total impulse levels

Bank levels (marked in green color) are built at 00:00 London time. Bank levels are used as entry points to enter a position or points for profit taking on the next day after their formation.

Abrupt trend change levels (depicted in red) are areas where price abruptly changes its direction, forming a spike pattern or a long candle shadow.

The consolidation zone (blue color on the chart) is a horizontal trading channel in which the price makes long fluctuations and then leaves the trading channel. As a rule, it has a width of 10 to 20 pips.

As you know, any trading system includes several interrelated components: timeframe, trading instrument, lot, leverage, position opening conditions, loss limitation, position closing conditions. Now let’s consider them sequentially.

Recommended timeframe for TS “Sniper”

It is recommended to work on periods of 5 or 15 minutes, but the direction of the global trend is taken into account (H4 and Daily). Trading is carried out according to the trend.
Trading instrument

“Sniper” is a multi-currency forex strategy.

Nowhere does it say about the preferences of this or that asset. However, it is emphasized that trading should be conducted only on one financial instrument, for example, only on one currency pair and only in rare cases simultaneously on two.

Lot for “Sniper”

When describing the trading system, an example with an open position of 1 lot is used. It is important that the chosen position size was not the minimum for this broker, because the use of “Safe” implies closing half of the position and brokers with a minimum lot of 0.01 will not be able to do it. It is necessary to open a position in this case with a lot of at least 0.02.
Use of the shoulder

The trading system does not give any recommendations regarding the leverage to be used. Apply the usual rules of money management. Do not risk too much in one trade.

Conditions for opening a position on the strategy “Sniper”

Positions are not opened inside trading channels, but only when they are broken or reflected from the level. New trades are not opened 15-20 minutes before the release of important news.

Important rule: New trades are not opened if a trader has already earned 40 pips during the day.

scheme of TS “Sniper”

Position opening is carried out after breakdown, rollback and price fixing at the first impulse level.

The second variant of entry is a false breakdown, rollback to the first impulse level.

The third option is a breakdown of the consolidation zone, i.e. price exit from the trading channel.

It is clear that when using channels, which in our case are signal lines, trading can and even should be carried out by pending orders, placing them a few points below/above (taking into account the spread) the control mark.

Limitation of losses in trading

An important rule of the “Sniper” trading system is the mandatory use of stop-loss!

It is claimed that a correct entry into a position gives 15-20 pips of profit.

The author of the trading system calls “safe”, i.e. “saving” the actions, in which after reaching these 15-20 points, half of the open position is closed, and for the remaining half of the position the stop-loss level is set so that it would provide the trader with a breakeven in case of price reversal.

Thus, the level of stop-loss for the remaining half of the open position is set the same size, which profit was fixed by the trader, having closed the first half of the position.
Conditions for closing a position

The description of the trading system nowhere explicitly states what level of profit a trader should withdraw in pips. It is mentioned that the position is closed when the bank level is reached or it is closed at the stop loss (see “safe” in the previous paragraph). Probably, for each currency pair the trader should determine the profit level independently, based on his trading experience and the behavior of the currency pair in a particular period of time.

“Sniper” – a reliable forex strategy, because in its algorithm uses not the readings of various technical indicators that display history, but the real behavior of the price of the asset, which is known to be the most important parameter in the currency market.

The strategy “Sniper” is designed for those traders who do not want to be in the market every minute, worrying that price fluctuations are passing them by. This system does not tolerate fuss, as positions will be opened not very often, but almost every deal will bring the trader profit, as an accurate shot of the sniper.
