The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has imposed a ban on advertising of the European branch of crypto exchange Coinbase, as well as trading platforms Kraken, eToro and EXMO Exchange. Advertising of crypto broker Coinburp and crypto exchange Luno also came under the ASA ban.

The regulator also banned a marketing campaign by pizza chain Papa John’s, which offered its customers “free bitcoins worth £10”.

“Consumers need to be aware of the risks of investing in crypto-assets and companies need to ensure that their advertising is not misleading or socially irresponsible by exploiting consumers’ lack of awareness of these complex and volatile products,” a spokesperson for the UK regulator told the BBC.

In mid-November, the ASA began a review of the advertising campaign for the “meme” cryptocurrency Floki Inu. The regulator checks the legality of the promotion of such products in public transportation systems. In October this year, ads with the slogan “Missed Doge? Get Floki” (“Missed Doge? Get Floki”).

Residents of the British capital could see such ads on buses, trains and subway stations. According to The Guardian, the ASA has received several complaints related to the Floki Inu promotion. In July, it became known that the UK Advertising Standards Authority plans to strengthen control over cryptocurrency advertising. The regulator will suppress the publication of misleading advertising of investments in cryptocurrency assets. The country’s authorities have also allocated about $15 million to inform residents about the dangers of investing in cryptocurrencies
