Production at the Russian Volkswagen (DE:VOWG) plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod, which was suspended in early March, may not resume until the summer of this year, Vedomosti reports, citing two sources familiar with the German automaker’s plans.

According to one of the interlocutors of the newspaper, so far the employees of the Kaluga plant Volkswagen was officially announced only about the downtime until May 12. But, according to confirmed forecasts, it will last until July inclusive – due to the fact that the supply of some components “hung up” at the border with Poland, says the source. Since transit through the Ukrainian territory is now impossible, and Poland does not allow the cargo, the issue of delivery of components to Istanbul and further through Georgia to the Russian Federation is being considered, he explained. The company’s management hopes that by mid-May it will be possible to solve this issue, the interlocutor adds.

A representative of the VW Group declined to comment.

Another source of “Vedomosti” says that the production plan for 2022 Volkswagen in Russia has not yet cut. Now we are tentatively talking about restarting assembly lines in June, he specifies. Employees of the group’s enterprises will receive their full salaries until at least mid-April, one of the interlocutors hopes.
